CONSULTATION

Clinical Consultation

Clinical consultations are appointments where the family does not wish to come for regular therapy sessions. Rather, the parent/ caregiver wishes to consult with one of the clinicians of For A Child, LLC to obtain advice or suggestions on parenting or how to handle a particular change in the family situation. Depending on the issues, children may or may not be included in the clinical consultations. Clinical consultations may be scheduled as a one-time visit, or in a series of up to three visits (depending on clinician availability). Some insurance companies do not cover clinical consultations, so it is advisable to check your coverage before attending the consultation appointment.

Academic/School Consultation

Academic/ School consultations occur in several ways. Families may request a consultation with Dr. Jones to review school records and/or psychological assessments that were completed in another setting to obtain additional suggestions for intervention.  Academic consultation is also provided to schools and educational settings for teachers and other school staff as a means of improving their ability to work with specific academic and behavior problems. A collaborative approach is used where Dr Jones (or an associate of the For A Child, LLC) and the school staff member(s) work together for solution building.  Another type of school consultation is available to current therapy or assessment clients. These consultations may involve having the child’s clinician attend meetings at the school regarding the child’s behavior or emotional state. Additionally, if Dr. Jones completed an assessment with the child, she may attend school meetings to verbally interpret the findings and explain the recommendations for intervention.

Professional Consultation

Professional consultations are available to agencies and other mental health professionals who are seeking professional feedback about clients on their current caseload. These consultations are intended to support the work of the professional by gaining a different perspective about their case. Consultations are provided on an individual or small group basis. For those clinicians who are complying with the guidelines for families being served under the prepaid health plan, Dr. Jones also provides African American consultations.
